Wintah Storm – The Voice That Breaks the Silence
Wintah Storm’s story begins not with a mic, but with a moment. She was just a child when she stumbled upon Langston Hughes in a house filled with Black art and inspiration. By the time she was handed a poem by her pastor’s wife to perform in church, she knew words weren’t just ink on paper—they were power. That first performance earned a quiet “wow,” but it resonated deeply within her. From that moment forward, the stage became her sanctuary, and poetry her way of speaking what the world tried to silence.
Born into a family of readers and raised in a home where sports reigned, Wintah found her own lane through language. With the full backing of her parents—who printed and hung her early poems on the walls—she learned that her voice had value. Her father would share tales of his own writing days, bonding with his daughter as her passion took flight.
But the journey wasn’t without storms. As a young mother at 19, Wintah faced judgment from her church community. Shunned for being an unwed mother, she put down her pen, believing her gift had become a curse. It was her mother—finding an unpublished book of poems and asking, “What are you going to do with this?”—who unknowingly reignited the flame. That simple question became a lifeline, pulling Wintah back to her calling.
Her poetry is personal, rooted in real pain and powerful healing. Behind her encouraging voice is a survivor of childhood trauma, silenced by fear but reborn in verse. Wintah writes for those who can’t. She speaks for the unheard. Her mission is clear: remind every listener that they matter. Whether she’s performing in church or stepping onto the stage at an erotic poetry show like “Poetry on the Pole,” Wintah Storm embodies transformation. Every performance is a prayer. Every poem is a mirror. And every stage is a space for freedom.
Her process is deeply intentional. Before every show, she bows her head and prays: “Take Karen out of this and let people see the gift You gave me.” She practices in front of mirrors, asking herself how each gesture, each word feels. She doesn’t rehearse with others in mind—she stays rooted in her truth.
To Wintah, poetry is not just expression—it’s testimony. She doesn’t aim for perfection; she aims for impact. Her goal is that somebody in the crowd walks away knowing they’re not alone. That somebody felt something real.
“I Am The Poet” isn’t just a title to her—it’s a declaration. A promise that no matter what stage she’s on, you will hear truth. You will feel seen. And you’ll leave knowing your voice matters, too.
“I am the poet because this is the gift that God gave me.”
Come witness the storm.
